Hogle Zoo Takes a Step Forward For Christie & Zuri

Earlier in May, Hogle Zoo made a startling announcement: Christie and Zuri were to be removed from their zoo and their elephant program closed.

Sadly, we have only completed part of our mission. According to Hogle Zoo and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the intent is to move Christie and Zuri to yet another zoo "where opportunities for reproduction can be maximized." Let us be very clear: we oppose the keeping of elephants in zoos for breeding purposes or otherwise. Zoos are NOT suitable spaces for elephants. Holding elephants hostage in zoos has no true conservation value.

Zoos keep elephants for one primary reason: because they generate revenue.

We have updated our petition to reflect the changes with Hogle Zoo and have again asked them to do the right thing for Christie and Zuri, which is to SEND THEM TO AN ACCREDITED SANCTUARY. Please sign and share.
