We are happy to share that all of the guinea pigs in CWI's care from the recent hoarding situation in L.A. are healing well and increasing in their willingness to be social. At present they are located in three separate enclosures, Cage 1 with three animals, Cage 2 with four, and Cage 3 with 2. The guinea pigs in cage two arrived one week after the other animals.

In the charts below, you can see the various ailments they have suffered or are still suffering from along with their starting and present weights. Two of the animals seem to have permanent injuries, though those injuries will not prevent them from having a full life or from being adopted. We are pleased that everyone is gaining weight at an appropriate rate for their age despite the fact that at least two of the guinea pigs were separated from their mother prematurely and were extremely small! (Because the hoarding situation involved guinea pigs roaming loose around the property, it was impossible to assess which baby guinea pigs belonged with which mother, or even who the mothers were.)

The goal will ultimately be to adopt the animals in pairs or to pair single guinea pigs with local single males. Guinea pigs should always be adopted in pairs if at all possible. As herd animals, they are most comfortable when they have a friend, even if they don't outwardly show affection for their friend. We believe this will be especially important for these animals since they "grew up" surrounded by many other guinea pigs and are accustomed to huddling for comfort.

If you are interested in ultimately adopting any of the 9 guinea pigs in CWI's care, please contact us at info@cwint.org. Adoption can only take place in Southern Nevada and will not take place for another 3-4 weeks at minimum. If you are in Southern California, many guinea pigs were rescued by Pasadena Humane, and each of the Los Angeles city shelters also took a number of rescued pigs. Please continue to support the L.A. 9, along with the other 7 guinea pigs in CWI's Wheeks of Hope Microsanctuary by visiting here.
