Captive
Elephants
Deserve
Better.

Elephants are intelligent, deeply social animals who suffer in circuses, zoos, private menageries, and other forms of captivity. CWI works to expose their exploitation, pressure decision-makers, support sanctuary solutions, and mobilize people to take meaningful action. Below are our current elephant campaigns — please choose an action and speak up today.

No elephant should spend life alone.

Across the country, elephants are still being kept by private owners without the companionship they need. CWI is calling for better outcomes for five lonely elephants who deserve sanctuary, safety, and the company of other elephants.

Elderly, alone, and still being forced to perform.

Okha is one of the last elephants still traveling with a circus in the United States. At 56 years old, she should be in sanctuary — not hauled from town to town, forced to give rides, and used for profit.

SPEAK OUT

Zoos know better.

AZA-accredited zoos are meant to maintain certain standards of care. Among them is the guideline that female elephants should be kept in threes and males in pairs. Despite this, zoos continue to fail elephants.

DEMAND JUSTICE.

Shrine Circuses: Tradition is not an excuse for cruelty.

Shrine circuses continue to use animals in outdated performances that normalize captivity, transport, and domination. CWI urges communities and Shrine chapters to choose animal-free entertainment.

BE A VOICE FOR BETTY, CINDY, VICKY & JANICE.

Alice escaped her enclosure.

Accidents like this should never happen. But at Albuquerque BioPark, Alice went for a stroll one morning after breaking through a steel perimeter fence.
