Petco continues to sell guinea pigs, ferrets, chinchillas, hamsters, rats, mice, gerbils, and other small animals in stores nationwide.


Behind the animals displayed for sale is an enormous commercial breeding and distribution industry. Animals may be bred by the hundreds or thousands, transported through wholesalers, and ultimately displayed in stores as retail inventory.


Petco has sourced animals from Sun Pet, a major live-animal distributor with a history of federal animal-welfare violations. Petco also sells ferrets supplied by Marshall Farms, the largest U.S. breeder of ferrets for laboratories and pet stores.


CWI believes animals should never be treated as merchandise.


Petco has the reach and resources to move the pet industry forward by ending these sales and promoting adoption instead.
