Marine Mammals Need Our Help

Whales, dolphins, sea lions, and other marine mammals are still confined and used for entertainment in aquariums, marine parks, and traveling shows. In captivity, they may be bred, transported, trained for performances, and kept in environments that cannot fully meet their physical, social, and behavioral needs.

CWI works to challenge these practices and to push for a future in which marine mammals are no longer treated as attractions.

Other Ways to Help

Signing a petition is one way to help, but there are other choices that matter too.
 

  • Avoid marine parks, aquariums, and attractions that use marine mammals for performances, close-contact encounters, or breeding programs.
     

  • Do not participate in swim-with-dolphins programs, photo opportunities, feeding encounters, or other experiences built around direct access to captive animals.
     

  • Ask questions before visiting. Find out whether a facility breeds marine mammals, transfers animals between institutions, uses them in performances, or allows them to retreat from public view.
     

  • Share credible information and current campaigns. Public pressure is more effective when institutions know people are paying attention.
     

  • Contact aquariums, venues, sponsors, and decision-makers respectfully when a specific policy or practice needs to change.
     

  • Support sanctuaries and organizations working to end marine mammal exploitation and improve protections for animals still held in captivity.
     

  • Stay involved after the first action. Follow campaign updates, take additional actions when they arise, and help keep attention on animals after the news cycle moves on.
     

Marine mammals do not need to perform, pose, breed, or provide close encounters in order to matter.
