Loomis Bros. Circus is preparing for a three-city Florida run—and its advertising prominently features an elephant. That elephant is expected to be Okha, the 56-year-old Asian elephant and the only elephant currently known to be traveling with Loomis. Speak out!

After nearly four decades in a circus, Julie — Portugal’s last circus elephant — has been retired to Pangea Elephant Sanctuary in the country’s Alentejo region.

At 56 years old, Okha should be living in peace—free from trucks, circus rings, and the demands of performing for crowds. Instead, she is still being hauled from city to city and forced to perform for Loomis Bros. Circus.

Despite growing nationwide opposition to the use of wild animals for entertainment, Bruno’s Tigers is scheduled to perform at the Mercer County Fair in Ohio from August 14–19, 2026. The traveling act, operated by Brunon Blaszak, forces tigers to perform demeaning circus tricks such as jumping through hoops and walking across a high wire. These stunts do not teach respect for endangered animals. They teach audiences that powerful wild cats exist for human amusement.

As far as CWI is aware, Okha is the only elephant currently traveling and performing with a circus in the United States right now. While this could change, it still represents an extraordinary milestone. When CWI first began this work, dozens of elephants were on the road every spring.
