9/26/26 - Monkeys Are Not Trophies

Monkeys are being killed for trophies, too. A fact sheet shared by our UK-based partner, Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting, reports that international hunters brought home 3,142 monkey trophies from Africa in 2024. These trophies include whole bodies, skins, skulls, and teeth. The report identifies vervet monkeys and several baboon species among the animals shot, and documents the sale of monkey-hunting holidays.

Among the accounts included in the fact sheet, a safari sales representative described drinking beer and shooting monkeys for fun. It is a disturbing reminder of how casually the hunting industry can treat an animal’s life.
